As an English Department Faculty Senator, I participate in Faculty Senate Meetings every two weeks.
o Chair Faculty Senate PGFE Committee—As a senator I chair the PGFE Committee and attend Faculty Senate Leadership Meeting every two weeks in preparation for the senate meeting. Last year the PGFE Committee reviewed Sabbatical Proposals and made recommendations for approval. We also met to change wording in the sabbatical document to include humanitarian projects. This year we presented changes to the Sabbatical Document stating that faculty who are on sabbatical are required to communicate with their departments periodically while on sabbatical. The nature of the communication is to be determined by departments. As chair, I took our changes to the Faculty Senate for approval and sent the document to Sandra Kikuchi for inclusion in the Policy and Procedures Manual after Cabinet approval.
Last year I also provided input for faculty in areas of concern such as the new “School of Online Learning” which was changed to a “Campus for Online Learning” due to faculty concerns.
Online and Traditional 2010 Course Leader
For the past several years I have maintained the website for Online English 2010. I developed the materials for the site based on the work of the 2010 Course Committee, with Lisa Bickmore and Jason Pickavance as 2010 Course Leaders. Every semester I update the site and develop and upload the new schedule for the current semester. I also meet with the Online 2010 Part Time Faculty to discuss curriculum, advise them on any current developments or improvements to the course management system and enable them to feel part of the group.
During the 2010-2011 academic year, along with Sue Briggs, I served as Co-Course Leader for
English 2010.
School of Humanities and Social Sciences Curriculum Committee
I served on this committee Spring Semester, 2011-Fall 2012.
Department Meeting Agenda and Minutes
The past few years I have sent out the agenda and kept the minutes of English Department Meetings. The minutes provide the department with the necessary resources to track important discussions and decisions.
Instructional Administration Building Committee
I attended the new IAD Building Meetings several times this year for two hours each when Allison was unable to attend. I provided input into faculty needs and preferences for faculty spaces each time I attended.
Distance Education Advisory Committee
For about 15 years I served on the Distance Education Advisory Committee as a representative from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. I was involved with the committee when we developed the Online Course Review, Online Review Standards and the Fully Online Faculty Load Document.
