Beginning Fall 2012 James Celestino and I have been working on the curriculum and website for 2760. I am teaching it online Spring 2013 and he is teaching a Technology Enhanced version of the class. I have worked with Distance Ed to redesign the course in Canvas and have been making changes in the course on the web and in the semester schedule.
Every year, in order to keep the curriculum current, I add a new book (or several chapters of a book) to the curriculum for English 2760, Gender and Cultural Studies. As a diversity course, 2760 focuses on gender issues of concern in the U.S. and as applicable, around the world. This year I read and encouraged my students to read Nicholas Kristof’s, Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide and to attend his lecture, the keynote for the Writing and Social Justice Conference, April 2011. As per my request, The SLCC library recently acquired the videos that aired on PBS a few months ago. They will be added to the curriculum beginning Spring 2012.
