I have been involved with TYCA-West since the last 1980s, serving on the Regional Executive Committee as Chair, Treasurer and National TYCA Representative to National TYCA.
tycawest.org is our website with information about the most recent conference.
TYCA National
Serving on the national level, I have opportunities to serve on various committees. TYCA Outstanding Program Awards Committee, Nell Ann Pickett Award Committee and as a reader for TETYC are a few committees I have been involved with. In addition, I am responsible for writing a TYCA-to-You Article for every edition of TETYC.
I have had the opportunity to present at many conferences throughout my career at SLCC. The most recent are linked here.
Journal Articles
I recently read an article in TETYC by Sandie McGill Barnhouse and Sherylee Petty Smith entitled "The Evolution of a Learning Community." This article was interesting to me partially because I work with Sandie on National TYCA and also because I'm interested in learning communities and what faculty at other institutions have done to develop successful learning communities.
University Courses
Spring and Sumer 2006 I took two courses at the University of Utah in preparation for developing the Gender and Cultural Studies class, Gender and Contemporary Issues and Gender Theory. These courses provide the foundation for the gender course and have provided me with the knowledge in the field necessary to teach this class.
